Acting
and Performing
Oliver
O. Mbamara started acting and performing on stage at a very tender age, as early
as his kindergarten years. In the late eighties he wrote scripts and performed
in most of them for a comedy group among others. In the early nineties, his path
crossed with that of talented artistic director, Sanctus Okereke. Together with
other talented cast and crew members like Onyi Okoye, Duke Ukaeje, Titi Akinmoye,
they formed the group Prime Circle Theater Troupe and toured the country
performing unique sketches and full length drama presentations mostly embedded
with spiritual messages. Oliver wrote several scripts for the troupe including a
historic spiritual piece titled “This Transition Called Death,” in which he
played a major role.
In
2001, just a few years upon arriving in the United States, Oliver won and played
the lead role in an off Broadway Dance Drama – “Prisoner of The Kalakiri”
written by Prof. Chudi Uwazuruike. In 2003, working with Producer Tony Duru and
“Odenigbo Theater” Oliver directed and played the lead-actor role in Zulu
Sofola’s “Wedlock of The Gods.” Oliver has performed and continues to
perform in African masquerade dances and cultural performances. He
continues to star and lead the roles in several film
projects as well as stage/theater performances.
Recently Oliver delved
into television performance via the just about concluded production of a TV
series titled CULTURES (www.CulturesTVSeries.com)
which looks at the intricacies of immigrant lives and cultures in abroad using
America as a test case.
